Update July 2015

Wow, it really has been a long time since I posted anything here. I’m currently very busy with a number of side projects, including writing for GimmeDigital, as well as the day job.

I still have plans to make another album but finding the time and inspiration is proving difficult. The latter is probably more true than the former to be honest. My spare time seems to be taken up mostly with videogames which, after a long day of staring at Pro Tools in work, seem vastly more appealing than switching on the PC at home to stare at another DAW. Like I said, I just need the inspiration and I’m sure that won’t be a problem.

In the meantime, keep an eye on my SoundCloud in case I do post a new tune or two there. That’s likely the first place they’ll appear.

Much love,

June 2013 Update

Hi guys,

What news have I got? Well, I’ve moved house so that’s pretty much the big thing. I was 6 years living in the old place, so it was time for a change. I’ve been in the new apartment for just over a week but it’s starting to feel like home. I still have to get the studio up and running again before I can begin making tunes again. It’s getting there though.

Elsewhere, I’ve started writing in spare time for a technology/games news website. It’s Gimmedigital.com and it was founded by myself and a buddy, Mick Brennan. It seems to be getting a positive response and the contributors we have on board are all excellent.

Finally, today would have been my Dad’s 55th birthday if he was still with us. So I’d just like to say happy birthday to him. I’m sure, if there is a heaven, he’s up there chilling out with Johnny Cash and Dean Martin.

Love,

Styli

February 2013 Update

Wow… Has it really been that long since I updated? Well, not much has changed. Still working away on new stuff. Unfortunately, the day job must take priority.

I’ve mostly been doing tracks for apps, podcasts and such. Not a lot of my own music but what I have done is going up on SoundCloud, so that’s the best place to hear my most recent offerings.

I’ve been doing some other non-music related side-projects which involve gaming news and video editing. A bit of graphics design as well. A lot of varied things. Music will still be my first love but it’s good to take a break for a while and learn new tricks and trades. I’m even hosting a podcast with a buddy. It’s called GimmeDigital, so check that out on iTunes/Podbean.

I had a bit of sad news recently as well with the old family dog, Babe, having to be put down. He was quite old and became sick so there was nothing that could be done. At least he had a long mostly happy life, so we don’t feel too upset. Still, RIP, old fella.

And that about wraps up the news. All the best, and I’ll try to update more often if I can.

A very old demo from the archives…

Hey guys,

I was looking through my old archives and found a demo from May 2008 of “Pin Me Down” – A track which I’ve never actually gotten around to finishing, even though it’s one of my favourite songs that I’ve written over the years. In fact, it was written circa 2001/2002.

The demo, which I’ve put up on SoundCloud here, was recorded as a guide track primarily for the gang to practice before we went and did the 2FM Session for Dan Hegarty’s show.

The song features Andy Farrell and Jewels Grogan on vocals, Dan LB on Bass and some tweaking from Damo Bolger.

/November 2011 Update

“I’m a PC”
“I’m a Mac”

I recently bought a MacBook Pro for playing live with Ableton Live. I finally understand why people switch but I do wish FLStudio was available on Mac (and not just on a Mac running Windows in Bootcamp). Yep, I know, why buy a Mac and try to tun it into a PC? I guess the only issue I have with PCs is that they take a lot to configure, mainly because every one of them is different. On a Mac, everything just works and they’re all more or less the same. Even with just the onboard soundcard, Live works flawlessly. There’s no faffing about. That said, I still love the PC way as well and a PC that’s set up right can be just as stable.

I’ll still be using FLStudio on my desktop DAW PC to compose tunes. I’ve gotten too fast at programming in FLStudio to turn back now. When I’m done, I can export loops to use in Ableton Live for jamming and playing live.

As to which route I’d recommend for newbies; If you want to play live gigs and if you have the cash, buy a Mac. If not, save up and buy a Mac. They are just too simple to use. If you just want to make studio tunes, then buy a PC. You’ll always find what you want on a PC and the money saved could buy you some really decent gear.

Anyway, I guess I really should tell you about what I’m doing. Well, I’ve some more demos up on SoundCloud now, so go have a listen.

August Update: Lost Files

Hey, remember I released “Lost Files” a few months back? Well, I forgot to post the link here, so here it is on Fwonk. It’s totally free, the best type of FREE!

Enjoy.

I’m always working on new tunes so I hope to have something else soon.

1st June 2011

Today would have been my Dad’s 53rd birthday. Since, he passed away in September 2009, I don’t think there’s been 1-day that I haven’t thought about him.

So I’d just like to wish him a Happy Birthday, wherever he may be.

Dad, Happy Birthday, miss you lots. x
